I could see how this could be perceived as arrogance, but really it is a common theme in america to set seemingly unattainable goals in an attempt to push very had to get on track. It is not meant to sound like a message that we think that we are so great that we can do what others couldn't and in such a short period. It is only meant as a way to, internally, challenge ourselves and to create dreams and hope to reach toward. Our attempts toward the world cup are not meant to be a challenge toward the world, but another step toward joining the world community- we have, in some areas, a poor record of seeing ourselves as part of the world community. Football/Soccer is one of the areas that may help us move away from the 'us and them' mentality that is often prevalent here.

Thinking you can build a World Cup winning team in 12 years is arrogance typically associated with certain members of American society. England have been trying to win the damn thing in their national sport for 43 years and they still haven’t pulled it off, what hope the yanks had…

Have the second highest amount of tickets sold for SA 2010 emanating from US addresses is a bigger success then winning the WC this year. That’s an outstanding statistic and something those trying to build the game in this country should be proud off.

Incidentally, since when was the Confederations Cup the pre-World Cup? It’s a bunch of friendlies grouped together, that’s it.
