Thank you, Robert Green. USA tie England 1-1

The United States didn’t deserve to tie England 1-1 today in their opening game of the World Cup (highlights here). But they did, thanks to two goalies: English keeper Robert Green for giving us one (pictured). And American keeper Tim Howard (the man of the match) for saving a half dozen others.
“The record will show it was a tie, but it was hardly that,” wrote the Associated Press. Indeed, out defense looked porous in the first half, and our midfield couldn’t connect a pass to save its life in the second. In addition to Howard, only Landon Donovan, Jozy Altidore, and Steve Cherundolo looked particularly strong.
If the United States plan on beating Slovenia next week, they had better look a lot more uniform than they did today.

Ironically, the English goalie gave us the tie but kept us from winning, stopping Altidore’s near-goal.
It was sloppy but I couldn’t stop smiling when the U.S. scored.
Nice game. I am still trying to follow all the rules (there aren’t too many). Thinking about going out and buying a soccer ball after today.
Disagree. Bradley arrived with the right game plan and it worked (unlike his opposite number who subbed one of his key men in the first half and changed formation) by stopping the English midfield getting the ball to Rooney. Goal aside, Gerrard and Lampard were anonymous meaning Rooney was too (Heskey scored four goals last season and doesn’t deserve a marker). I think you’re being way too harsh here.
Job done as far as I’m concerned.
